Smedley Allied Health Youth Court Awards Luncheon

Carolyn High (Climate Manager), Greg Volz (Stoneleigh Foundation), Gene Foehl (Pres. of the Unity Center), Joyce Wells (CUSD Superintendent), and Justin Sheppard (Youth Court Teacher)

Parents and dignitaries were gathered today at the Chester Student Center to give special recognition to students for their service and their roles as the founding members of the Youth Court program at Smedley Allied Health High School. While Chester High Youth Court has been in operation since 2007, Allied Health Youth Court is a new program that started for this 2010-2011 school year. In the fall, the students underwent training to operate the youth court. In January, they started to process disciplinary cases from the administration. From Swarthmore College student volunteer Shilpa Boppana, “Considering that none of the students have any experience running a youth court, have any senior youth court leaders, and the fact that they are all freshmen and sophomores, they've been doing an amazing job so far.” Allied Health Youth Court operates during 1st period and is an elective for students.
