April is National Poetry Month and Chester High School’s Library is adorned with poetry in celebration of this event. Poems are on display from published poets, staff, and students. The tables are decorated, with works of poetry, by Head Librarian Dr. Irene Owens to inspire and motivate students to read. The poems are framed and as you sit at a table you can’t help but reach out to read the creative expressions.
As you enter behold this display:
Bronzeville Boys and Girls by Gwendolyn Brooks
My People by Langston Hughes
Haiku (for you) by Sonia Sanchez
The Freedom Business by Marilyn Nelson
You Hear Me? Poems written by teenage boys and edited by Betsy Franco
No More Birminghams (1963) Carole Boston Weatherford
Some poems of staff and students will be posted. If you are interested in showcasing your poetry for National Poetry Month, send it to the email on this blog.
