Clippers breezed pass the Vikings

Chester continued their winning streak with an easy 68-35 win over the visiting Christiana (DE) Vikings. The Clippers record now stands at 12-3.

Sophomore Larenzo Jerkins led the way in the first quarter scoring 11 of his game high 15 points as the Clippers jumped out to a 25-10 first quarter lead. Sophomore Kyree Womack took the helm in the second quarter dropping in 10 of his 13 points as the Clippers continued to stretch their lead. Chester went on one of the patented runs consisting of a 19-1 sprint. The lead was 44-11 until the Vikings stop the onslaught scoring with 35 seconds on the clock. Sophomore Kevin Rucker responded with a trey for the Clippers as the halftime buzzer sounded. Chester led 47-13 at the intermission.

With the Mercy Rule in place, the only question was what would be the final score. Chester used a balanced attack putting ten players in the scoring column and assisting on 15 of their 24 made baskets.

Chester scorers: Breilynd White (5), Qadir Lowrie (8), Olayinka Itabiyi (5), Isaiah Freeman (2), Kevin Rucker (8), Jerkins (15), Womack (13), Dante Atkinson (4), Terrence Cobb (5), Jerry Young (3).

The Clippers next contest will be on the road as they travel to Atlantic City to participate in the 27th Annual Battle By The Bay Showcase. They will face Brooklyn Collegiate on Saturday, February 5 with a 5:00 pm tip-off at Atlantic City High School.

They will return home for Del Val League action on Tuesday, February 8th when the Interboro Bucs visit the Clip Joint.

JV GAME SUMMARY

Chester rebounded from their loss on Tuesday by soundly defeating the Christiana Vikings 60-27. The Clippers jumped out to a 30-7 lead after the first quarter and led 40-12 at the intermission. Dante Atkinson scored all 10 of his points in the first quarter. Hamza Clay-Goudelock dropped in 5 of his 10 in the opening period. Dallas Thompson scored his 8 points also in the first quarter and Jerry Young added 5 of his 8 in that same stanza.

Dante Atkinson stole a pass and dished to Hamza for a bucket to invoke the Mercy Rule at 5:20 in the third quarter. The quarter ended with Chester leading 50-15.

Andre Brown came off the bench to lead the team with a game high 11 points. Other Chester scorers were: Andre West (4), Karon Wilson (2), Vince Coleman (5) and Ra'Shaad Dorsey (2).
