Clippers remain atop of the Del Val

Chester improved their record to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in Del Val League action with a 68-54 win over the Penn Wood Patriots. The Clippers used a 11-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to secure the win. 

Sophomore Larenzo Jerkins led the Clippers with a career high 25 points and matched his career high of 17 rebounds. He also accounted for 3 blocked shots, 2 steals and was an impressive 11 of 12 from the free throw line. Junior Breilyn White joined him in double figures with 14 points. Chester led by 15-7 after the first quarter and increased their lead to 33-23 at the intermission.  

The Patriots closed the gap to 49-43 after three periods. Chester saw their lead disappear to 51-49 with 5:12 left in the final quarter; that's when the run began. The Patriots was able to stop the surge with a free throw at the two-minute mark now trailing 62-50. 

Senior Isaiah Freeman did a yeoman's job on the court matching his career highs of 15 rebounds and 5 steals to go along with his 6 points and 2 assists.

JV GAME SUMMARY

The JV team came up short in the fourth quarter falling 64-71 to the Patriots. Hamza Clay-Goudelock led all scorers with 23 points. Dante Atkins also accounted for double figures with 12 points while Vincent Coleman fell short with 9 points. The see-saw battle had the Clippers lead after the first quarter, 15-13, and the Patriots led at the half, 34-24. Chester stormed back in the third to reduce the deficit to 42-44 going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Patriots connected on 10 of 12 free throws while the Clippers only managed to make 2 of 8 to close out the game. 

The teams will return to action on Saturday, January 29th when Christiana visits the Clip Joint for a triple header matinee affair. The Freshman team is scheduled to tip-off at 1:00 with the JV and Varsity to follow. The Varsity game will be streamed on Cmpradio.net on YouTube or Facebook as well as the Chester Upland School District on YouTube.
