Clippers Hold Off the Yellowjackets

Chester (1-2) used a balanced attack resulted in a 68-60 win over the visiting Newark Yellowjackets. Four Clippers scored in double figures led by senior Breilyd White with 17 points. Terrence Cobb and Kyree Womack each scored 14 while Dominic Toy dropped in 10 points. The balance showed in the first quarter with the previous four players scoring all 18 of the team's points: White (5), Womack (5), Cobb (4) and Toy (4). Chester led 18-9 at the end of the quarter.

The Clippers stayed on course offensively to open the second quarter jumping out to a 31-17 lead at the 2:42 mark. At that point the wind left the sails defensively allowing the Yellowjackets the opportunity to score 11 points over the next two minutes. Fortunately, Chester's offense remained on course equaling their opponent's production taking a 42-28 lead into intermission.

The Clippers defensive woes coupled with the inability to maintain ball control continued in the third quarter. Newark took advantage of Chester's mishap outscoring the Clippers 19-10 reducing Chester led to 52-47 at the end of the quarter. Chester managed just 3 field goals and shot 4 of 9 from the charity stripe.

The Clippers opened the final quarter with a quick 5-0 burst pushing their lead to 10 points, 57-47, with 6:28 to play. For Chester, their next thirteen points came via the free throw line. Newark managed to close with 63-58 when they called their final time-out with 1:20 to play. The shot 14 for 18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. White went 6/8, Womack and Cobb each went 3/4, and Vincent Coleman was 2 for 2. 

Dante Atkinson contributed four points shooting 4 of 4 from the line and Calvin Williams completed the scoring with 5 points.

Chester will return to action on Saturday, December 17 when they travel to Wilmington, DE to part of the Winter Showcase at Howard High School. The Clippers will face Delcastle Technical School; tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm. 

JV GAME SUMMARY

Chester's JV improved to 2-0 with a resounding 63-20 thumping of the Newark Yellowjackets. Andre Brown and Jaseir Thompson led with way with 15 points apiece following by 11 points from Kristian Chambers. The Clippers led from start to finish with the "Mercy Rule" being invoked at the 5:35 mark in the third quarter after a bucket from Jaseir pushed the score to 40-9.

The JV team returns to action on Monday, December 19 when Thomas McKean (DE) visits the Clip Joint. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
