Chester (14-4) claimed
at least a share of the Del Val League Championship with a 81-24 domination of
the visiting Interboro Bucs. The win moved the Clippers to 7-0 in league play
with three league games remaining and Academy Park sitting in 2nd place with a
4-3 league record. The win also keeps the Clippers unbeaten in 2019 with their
10th consecutive victory.
The Clippers took
control of the game early and maintain control throughout. Chester led 21-4 after
the first quarter and 42-10 at the half. The onslaught continued in the third
quarter when they outscored their opponent 27-14 to enforce the Mercy Rule for
a 69-24 margin entering the fourth quarter. The defensive effort continued in
the final quarter and coupled with a running clock the Bucs were held scoreless
while the Clippers added 12 more to their total.
Sophomore Karell Watkins
was the force in the first half where he totaled 16 of his game high 26 points
and 9 of his 16 rebounds. This marks his 16th double-double of the season.
Senior Michael Smith took over in the third quarter putting up 14 of his 23
points. He also contributed 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals on the night.

Clippers scored in the contest: Rahmee Gilbert (8), Akeem Taylor Jr and Rahmaad
DeJarnette with 7 apiece, Christian Massena (4) and Fareed Burton Jr, Javan
Graham and Naim Berry Jr each contributed 2 points.
Chester will travel to
take on the Glen Mills Battlin Bulls on Friday, February 1st. The Varsity will
place first with a 3:30 tip-off followed by the JV.
