The Clippers (2-5) returned home to the Clip Joint and opened 2018
with a 55-38 victory over the Christiana Vikings. Senior Kylair Blackston
stepped into the starting lineup and produced a career high 12 points joining
fellow senior Brian Randolph III with team highs. Sophomore Rahmee Gilbert
started his second consecutive game and dropped in 5 of his 9 points in the
opening quarter as Chester held a slight 14-13 advantage. Blackston scored 6
points in the second quarter off missed shots allowing the Clippers to play
even with the Vikings; taking a 25-24 lead into intermission. Randolph led the
way in the 3rd quarter with 5 points and senior Timothy Johnston came off the
bench to score 4 of his 8 points. With the Clippers tightening their defense
and holding the Vikings to 5 third quarter points; Chester increased their lead
to 38-29 going into the final 8 minutes. The Clippers continued their defensive
stance limiting their opponents to 9 points while Randolph led the way
offensively with 7 fourth quarter points. Chester outscored Christiana 17-9 in
the final quarter.
Michael
Smith added 8 points and Javan Graham, Malik Langley and Isaiah Schmidt each
contributed 2 points to complete the scoring for the Clippers.
The
Clippers will hit the road on Tuesday, January 12th to open Del Val League play when
they visit the Academy Park Knights.
