Widener University students prepare meal for Chester
residents on Nov. 22
Chester,
Pa. – Students in the Widener University Center for Hospitality Management want
to make sure Chester families have access to a delicious Thanksgiving meal. To
do that, the students are preparing and serving a feast on Wednesday, Nov. 22 for
as many as 200 people at the Salvation Army in Chester.
The
meal has been an annual tradition for hospitality management students for over
a decade. This year, approximately 30 students – a mix of seniors in the co-op
program and first-year students in the “Introduction to Hospitality Management”
class – are fundraising to purchase food, planning the full menu, calculating
ingredients and preparing the meal in advance.
“The
students are preparing everything you can think of from stuffing and yams to
turkey, pies and homemade apple sauce,” said Dr. Joy Dickerson, an associate
professor in the Center for Hospitality Management in the Widener School of Business
Administration. “But it’s so much more than just serving a meal – it’s an
unforgettable experience that is transformational for the students.”
