Report by Terry Thomas
Chester
55, Academy Park 39
The Clipper overcame a lackluster first half
to pull off the 55-39 victory over the Academy Park Knights. With the win
Chester improves to 4-0 in league play and 11-3 overall. After a short ceremony
where the team honored Coach Yarbray with a ceremonial ball for his 200th win
last week, the Clippers continue to play give away turning the ball over to the
Knights and found themselves in a 8-12 deficit at the end of the first quarter.
Even though they continued to play give away in the 2nd quarter they still managed
to score 12 points led by senior Jamar Sudan's seven points, a trey from senior
Tyrel Lennon and a bucket from sophomore Jaimhy Evans. This allow the Clippers
to trail 20-24 at the intermission. Chester's turnover woes continued into the
3rd quarter but they found their defensive foundation and held the Knight's to
4 points. Offensively there was nothing Academy Park could do to stop Sudan, he
produced 11 of his game high 29 points in the quarter and the Clippers blew the
game open outscoring their opponents 21-4 to take a 41-28 lead into the final
quarter. Evans added 4 points with senior Ahrod Carter and sophomore Rahmaad
DeJarnette each dialing long distance with treys to complete the scoring.
Sophomore Michael Evans and junior Timothy Johnston added their names to the
scoring column in the final quarter with 4 and 2 points respectively. Carter
finished 8 points and Evans tallied 6 for the Clippers.
Sudan added yet another double-double to his
career as he patrolled the lane for 13 rebounds. With Sudan as the only Clipper
in double figures, this marked just the 2nd time in 14 games that this has
happened.
Some of Chester's performance shortfalls can
be attributed to them having played 6 games in 10 days with the middle 4 being on the road. The
Clippers will now have 4 days to rest and prepare for the next opponent which
will be a home affair against the Glen Mills Battlin' Bulls. That contest will
take place at the Clip Joint on Tuesday, January 24th. JV tips off at 6:00 pm with the Varsity
to follow.
