Chester
- 62, Reading - 51
The Chester Clippers remained undefeated at
4-0 with an impressive 62-51 win over the visiting Red Knights (3-2) of Reading
High with University of Miami signee Lonnie Walker Jr. The Standing-Room-Only
crowd at the Clip Joint was thoroughly entertained with a 18-15 first quarter
edge by the home team. Senior Jamar Sudan led the way with 9 of his game high
16 points in the 1st. He also recorded his fourth double-double of the season
by tying a career high with 14 rebounds. His front court mate, senior Jordan
Camper used his 6'8" frame to dominate the paint by collecting a career
high of 14 rebounds while entertaining the crowd with a couple of thunderous
dunks. Camper also recorded a career high of 4 assists and finished the night
just shy of a double-double with 9 points to help Chester to a 29-25 halftime
advantage. The Clippers started the 3rd quarter in what has become the patented
move - increased defense and offensive production. After being called for an
offensive foul on their first possession, the Clippers would score on the their
next six possession forcing the Red Knights into a timeout at 3:48 and trailing 44-30.
The charge was led by sophomore point guard Michael 'Man-Man' Smith who scored
9 of his 14 points in the quarter. Senior Ahrod Carter got hot in the 3rd
draining two treys for 6 of his 11 points. Adding 5 points from Sudan, 2 points
from sophomore Rahmaad DeJarnette coupled with shutting out Walker and limiting
Reading just 10 points; Chester would take a 51-35 lead into the final quarter.
Several players were given the assignment of guarding Walker during the contest
including junior Brian Randolph III, sophomores DeJarnette and Jaimhy Evans and
the did a fantastic job. Walker scored 10 points in the 1st half and 3 points in
the 4th quarter to finish with a team high of 13 points. Reading would fight
back to close the gap to 58-51 with 2:11 on the clock before Camper would take control and
score the final 4 points of the contest for the win.
Evans and Smith would each clean the boards
with career highs of 4 rebounds. This Clippers team is just that a
"Team" sharing the wealth both offensively and defensively. They used
11 assist to accumulate 20 made baskets.
