Chester Boys Basketball declared undisputed Champions after win over Penn Wood

Chester (16-6) declared the undisputed Champions of the Del Val League by finishing the campaign 10-0 after a 58-52 victory over the visiting Penn Wood Patriots. It was senior night in the Fred Pickett Jr Gymnasium and the outgoing class was not about to let the visiting Patriots spoil their party.  Led by Khaleeq Campbell's 12 and Stanley Davis's 11 the outgoing class combined for 45 of the team's 58 points. After trailing 5-6, baskets by seniors Campbell, Jamal Jones with an assist from senior Jahmi Bailey-Green and Dymon Colbert gave the Clippers the lead 11-6; the 6-0 run forced a timeout by the Patriots at the 2:52 mark. Jones added another bucket to finish with 4 points on the night and Chester had a 14-10 lead at the end of the quarter. Four points from Davis, a treys from Campbell and senior Donald Hodges, his only points, allowed the Clippers to maintain their lead 25-24 at the intermission. The Clippers surrendered the lead to the Patriots 29-33 before junior Ahrod Carter gave the Patriots a glimpse of what the future holds by draining a trey at the 2:12 mark followed by knocking down two foul shots and the Clippers were back on top 34-33. Carter and Campbell added treys that were part of a 7-0 run. Carter added the single point via a free throw, he finished the quarter with 9 of his 12 points. Colbert closed the quarter by scoring off a missed Carter shot, Chester - 43, Penn Wood - 36. Jahmi Bailey-Green opened the fourth quarter with his only bucket to give Chester a 45-36 lead. The Patriots must have read the box score from Chester's game against Chichester Thursday night where they missed 24 foul shots and attempted a "Foul The Clippers" strategy in the final quarter but it did not work. Chester connected on 11 of 15 free throws led by Davis who was 6 for 7, Campbell was 3 of 4 and Carter drained both of his. Just prior to the parade to the foul line senior Maurice Henry entertained the crowd with a thunderous two-handed dunk as he finished the game with 6 points.

Chester now awaits the results from the District-1 Tournament Seeding meeting on Sunday afternoon to determine their next opponent. Chester is projected to finish in the top 16 which guarantees them a home game on Friday, February 12th.
