History of Chester vs. Carlisle in Boys Hoops State Tournament



The Clippers will open State Tournament play this Saturday, March 8th, 4:30pm against Carlisle at Coatesville Area High School.

Here is a history of the teams over the years via Dave Burman:

1958-59
Chester 88, Carlisle 66 state quarterfinals (March 14th), Chester lost to Farrell in state championship game, 76-66

1982-83
Chester 79, Carlisle (Jeff Lebo as a soph) 74 (2 OT) state first round (March 16th). Chester went on to win first of PIAA record 8 state championships beating McKeesport, 82-66

1984-85
Carlisle (Jeff Lebo senior, Billy Owens freshman) 72, Chester 49 in Eastern Final (March 26th). Carlisle went on to win 1st of PIAA record 4 consecutive state championships beating Pittsburgh Brashear, 74-64

1986-87
Carlisle (Billy Owens as a junior) 66, Chester 62 in Eastern Final (March 25th). Carlisle went on to win 3rd state title over Meadville, 48-47.

1987-88
Carlisle (Billy Owens senior year) 61, Chester 53 in Eastern Final (March 24th), Carlisle went on to to 4th straight state championship beating Pittsburgh Central Catholic (Jimmy McCoy) 80-54 as Billy Owens scored 53 points!!

1993-94
Chester 66, Carlisle 57 in 2nd round of state tournament (March 16th), Chester went on to win its 3rd state title beating Erie Prep 69-65.
