"Live
from the Newsroom" is a weekly 30-minute interview program on issues of
interest to Delaware County residents hosted by Daily Times Editor Phil Heron.
The program is streamed live through the Daily Times website and also recorded
for later viewing.
"We are
going to have some of the students here at Widener involved in some of the
technical aspects of our show," Heron said in the opening to the show.
"We're going to be utilizing some Widener professors to talk about some of
the issues of the day here in Delaware County and we're also going to include
some students in our round-table discussions. We are looking forward to a great
experience."
Heron
interviewed Dwight Dewerth-Pallmeyer, director of the Widener Communication
Studies program, about the partnership.
"We're
so involved with outreach to the community here in Chester and Delaware County
and this just seemed like a natural partnership," Dewerth-Pallmeyer said.
"We're very excited about it. It's a great opportunity for our
students."
Students
from the Communication Studies program operated the cameras and served as
technical engineers for the program. Communication Studies Senior Lecturer Tim
Scepansky is the supervising producer/director for the production of the
"Live from the Newsroom" partnership. Scepansky coordinated and directed
the students working as production crew for the show.
Live from
the Newsroom crew Guests for the program included J. Wesley Leckrone, associate
professor of political science at Widener; and Chris Friend, a columnist for
the Daily Times. They addressed President Obama's State of the Union Address
and the Pennsylvania Gubernatorial race.
Leckrone
invited four Widener political science students to participate in the program
and they offered their opinions on the State of the Union address and the
political climate in Washington, D.C.

26, March 26, April 23, September 24, October 22 and November 19.
