Chester
advances to the Quarter-finals and earned their 22nd consecutive trip to the
State Tournament with a 64-33 scalloping of the visiting Souderton Indians. The
Clippers opened by going inside and outside in the first quarter connecting on
treys by guards Khaleeq Campbell and Conrad Chambers. And, then forward Tyrell
Sturdivant and Brewster Ward dropped in 5 and 2 points respectively on the
inside. For good measure senior Mahir Johnson added a mid-range jumper and the
Clippers were out to a 15-6 lead at the end of the quarter. Sophomore Marquis
Collins came of the bench in the 2nd quarter to score his 5 points joining
Johnson for high man of the quarter. Ward and Sturdivant continued with the
complementary help as sophomore Jahmi Bailey added two points. The Indians did
produce 14 second quarter points but Chester's 17 extended their lead to 12
points at the half. Chester - 32, Souderton - 20. Chester dismissed any chances
of an upset by the 18th seeded Indians with a convincing 17-4 third quarter
breakout. Mahir Johnson drained the final 8 of his game high 15 points. Keyonte
Watkins knocked down a trey for 3 of his 5 points while Sturdivant and Ward
each contributed their final two points apiece to finish with 10 and 6 points
respectively. Conrad Chambers went 2 for 2 from the line to complete his
scoring with 5 points. With the starters resting in the fourth quarter the
Clippers bench went to work in the 4th quarter producing 15 points while
holding their opponents to only 9. Junior 6'3" forward Quran Foreman led
the way with 6 points and 6' 2" freshman Jamar Sudan added five; each
knocking down a trey. Bailey added a dunk to complete his scoring at 4 and
Watkins went 2 for 2 from the charity strip to complete his scoring.
The Clippers demonstrated good teamwork with 12 assists on 24 made field goals and put 10 of their 12 players in the scoring column.
Chester (19-5) will play their final home game of the season on Friday, February 21st when the Abington Ghosts visit the Clip Joint for a 7:00 tip-off. The winner advances to the Semi-Finals on Tuesday, February 25th at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University.
