Mayor’s Annual Scholar Awards Dinner



“Recognizing Academic Excellence, Community Service, and Collegiate Attainment”

Purpose, Award Categories and Criteria

The Purpose of this awards dinner is to recognize those students in Chester, who in addition to academic excellence, have demonstrated diverse talents through their contributions and service to their community and school. To qualify for an award, students in grades 8th thru 12th must be Chester Residents, enrolled in Chester Upland School District or attend a Charter, Private or Home School in Chester.
* Note, students who live in Chester, but are enrolled in public, private, charter or home schools outside of Chester, are not eligible for this award.*

Eligible students must also meet one of the three criteria areas.
Students in grades 8th-11th may apply for more than one criteria area.
Senior may only apply for criteria area (3).
Please carefully read through All Criteria.

Criteria (1) Academic Honor’s
Grade Point Average : 3.2 (or higher) for two consecutive quarters (Please provide proof) 

Letter of Recommendation: Typed recommendation letter from a teacher, guidance counselor, community leader, mentor or spiritual leader. (Letter should be addressed to: City of Chester Scholarship Committee)

Criteria (2) Community Service
Proven outstanding service in the community, school or likewise. (Submit documentation from your service site(s) outlining the number of hours served and the type of service.) 

Letter of Recommendation: Typed recommendation letter from a teacher, guidance counselor, community leader, mentor or spiritual leader. (Letter should be addressed to: City of Chester Scholarship Committee)

Criteria (3) Scholarship (High School Seniors Only)
Grade Point Average : 3.2 (or higher) for three consecutive quarters (Please provide proof)

Letter of Recommendation: Typed recommendation letter from a teacher, guidance counselor, community leader, mentor or spiritual leader. ( Letter should be addressed to: City of Chester Scholarship Committee) 

Proven outstanding service in the community, school or likewise. (Submit documentation from your service site(s) outlining the number of hours served and the type of service.) 

Proven acceptance into a 4 year college/university, to begin in the fall semester of 2013. (Submit documentation of acceptance) 

Typed single spaced essay (500 word or more) on your career aspirations, and how you plan to impact your hometown, with the skills you acquire through college.

All application materials need to be submitted no later than 4:30 pm Friday, May 9, 2014.
