Clippers Boys Basketball vs. Academy Park

Terry Thomas Report

The Clippers improve to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in league play with a 75-40 thrashing of the visiting Academy Park Knights. With their starting back-court of Jahmi Bailey and Conrad Chambers out with injuries, Chester turned the helm over to sophomore Khaleeq Campbell and junior Keyonte Watkins. And the duo did not disappoint. Khaleeq righted the ship from the point while 5' 8" Keyonte produced a career high of 16 points and match career highs in both rebounds and steals with four apiece. Senior shooting guard Mahir Johnson matched his Clipper career high with 25 points  and produced a career high of 9 rebounds falling just short of a double-double. Chester's power forward Tyrell Sturdivant joined Johnson and Watkins in double figures with 13 points. Being short two players allowed for more playing time by the support players including freshman Jamar Sudan who drained a trey in the 4th quarter for what will be a short time career high. Senior Brewster Ward contributed a season high two blocked shots and Quran Foreman, making his first varsity appearance, grabbed 3 rebounds and went 2 for 2 from the charity stripe to produce career highs in both categories. Sophomore Marquis Collins knocked down two treys and was 2 of 2 from the line for eight points, Khaleeq Campbell contributed 5 points with a trey and senior Da'Saun Campbell's trey in the first quarter accounted for the Clippers scoring. Chester finished with a season high seven treys in the contest and shot a blistering 18 of 19 (94.7%) from the free throw line.

Chester started the contest on a 9-2 run and never looked back. They outscored their opponents 15-5 in the first quarter, 39-28 in the middle two quarters and 21-7 in the 4th.

On Saturday, January 25th, the Clippers will head south on I-95 to participate in the Nation's Capital Hoop Classic at Calvin Coolidge High School in Washington, DC. They will have a 4:00 tip-off as they take on Capital Christian Academy from Landover, MD.
