Fruitvale Station the Movie

It’s not often I call my oldest son to tell him one of his childhood friends got shot up. In fact, I have never had to make that call until recently. But thinking back on cute little kids playing, you never know how they will turn out. Certainly, they were not raised that way. It would seem the more we advance in this nice shiny high tech world, the more we remain a barbaric society. We act like uncivilized Neanderthals. You can wake up one morning and you never know if you are going to make it home or who will make it home. Prayers and best wishes go out to the family.

Fruitvale Station is a drama centered on the tragic shooting death of 22-year-old of Oscar Grant, an unarmed African-American father who was senselessly gunned down by transit police in the Bay Area (Oakland, CA) on New Year's Day in 2009. The movie dramatizes the events that led up to Oscar’s murder. The events were captured on camera by passengers and sparked real-life outrage throughout the nation. The situation surrounding Oscar’s death is very troubling and sad. Strong language is used in the movie, immersed in adult content. Only an hour and 24 minutes long, this movie is heartfelt and will leave you in tears.

Michael Bakari Jordan heads up a cast that gives a great performance and tribute to the life of Oscar Grant. “He had a loving but clearly tense and tetchy relationship with his girlfriend Sophina (Melonie Diaz). He's a doting father to his daughter Tatiana. He also seems to have a good relationship with his mom Wanda (Octavia Spencer).” I became familiar with Jordan’s acting on All My Children and recently on Parenthood. Michael Bakari Jordan, born February 9, 1987 in Santa Ana, California, is best known for his roles as teenage drug dealer Wallace on the HBO drama television series The Wire, and quarterback Vince Howard on the NBC television series Friday Night Lights. He has made many appearances in other popular TV shows and has films such as Red Tails and the Chronicle to his credit. He grew up in Newark, New Jersey where he attended Newark Arts High School. Worth mentioning, Michael was a Kudos under the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Delta Pi Chapter. Nice to know he is one of us and very successful too. We are rooting for you, Michael, and best wishes during Academy Award season.
