In
recognition of Law Day, Chester High School had its annual Law Day Program.
Special guest Judge Linda Cartisano, Assistant District Attorney Erica Parham,
and Esquire Baltazar Rubio spoke to a group of interested students about the
legalities of a case. This year’s planned scenario was put aside for a more
realistic case currently in the news. The case of the recent Boston bombings
was used as an example. Three friends of the bombing suspect took possession of
a backpack and laptop from the suspect’s dorm room. The backpack contained “fireworks
and other evidence linking their friend to the deadly April 15 blasts.” The scenario
was adapted to the Chester High School cafeteria. What would you do if a known
suspect left you with his book bag containing evidence? The scenario was
discussed and student’s questions were answered. The bottom-line said Mr.
Rubio, if someone asks you to hold something for them, don’t. You will be held
responsible for possession if caught.
