A New Year for Chester Upland

Looks like this thing will be dragged out another 3 years whatever the plan is, and the beat goes on.

As part of the recovery plan, Columbus Elementary School was closed over the holiday break. Students will now attend Chester Upland School of the Arts or Toby Farms Elementary School beginning Thursday. “Stetser Elementary School and the STEM High School also are expected to be closed at some point by the beginning of the 2013-14 school year. In addition to school closures, Watkins’ plan calls for staff cuts and tax increases. It also requires him to develop private funding to restore art and music programs throughout the district and to add after-school, summer school and day care programs.” Receiver Joe Watkins wants to hire a permanent superintendent and chief financial officer by April and about 70 staff and faculty are expected to be cut by next school year.
