Widener
University, one of the nation’s premier universities for civic engagement and
applied leadership, is proud to launch the first-of-its-kind site that
encourages high school students to track and share their activities, community
service and leadership actions at leadershipworks.widener.edu from September 5
through December 15, 2012.
Leadership
and community service are always in demand, but many times they go unnoticed
and untracked. However, with this new site, Widener seeks to encourage
local high school students to share their civic and school involvement through
this fun, interactive way of continuously recording, tracking and sharing their
involvement.
This
easy-to-use site allows students to create an account and immediately begin to
"check-in" their recent activities through the site's pre-populated
categories. As the students check-in, they accrue points and are recognized for
their participation and the amount of time spent on certain commitments through
virtual "badges." Whenever a virtual badge is awarded, students can
share their accomplishment with friends and family through their social
networks.
"At
Widener University, we are proud of all the high school students taking the
initiative to give-back to their communities through civic engagement and
participation in school activities," said Widener University President
James T. Harris III. "We've created this new site to not only help
students spend less time tracking their activities so they are able to spend
more time on civic engagement efforts, but also to give them the recognition
they deserve for sharing their time and talents with the community."
Just for
participating, students will have the opportunity to win weekly iTunes® gift
cards for their efforts. Also, the school with the highest number of activity
check-ins will be awarded iPads® for their school. For more information
regarding the Widener University Leadership Works site, please visit: http://leadershipworks.widener.edu.
