Wow! Great night at Opera Delaware as they wrapped up the season with
Porgy and Bess; Watching this historic opera was grand at The Grand Opera
House. My first exposure to this musical was hearing Lena Horne sing “Summertime.”
Great performance from this legendary Gershwin opera set in a South Carolina
fishing village about 100 years ago. Yet the storyline resembles one of today
with a love triangle, murder, gambling, and drugs. If you missed any of 3 recent stage
performances, there is a 1959 movie of the same name with lots of old-time movie
stars.
Other notable
performances:
“A Woman is
A Sometime Thing,” “I Got Plenty O'Nuttin,” “Bess, You is My Woman Now,” and “It
Ain't Necessarily So”
