College Day at Chester High School

College Day was observed today at Chester High School. The event was sponsored by Project Grad a program which started in the beginning of the school year. Project Grad focuses on students' readiness and access to college. The program provides support to students and parents. It also provided frequent professional development to teachers with strategies that enhanced academic rigor for students. College Day was another motivating event to inspire students to go to college. Teachers were encouraged to wear their college t-shirts and decorate their classroom doors with college symbols.

Student solving the Scramble
College Day was celebrated in a voluminous manner in the library. Not only were volumes on careers displayed but they were accompanied by album covers, celebrating Black music month and factual information on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Students, teachers, and all staff could participate in the three minute sessions by unscrambling the names of HBCU’s using the concept of the Soul Train Scramble Board accompanied by its background music. Prizes were awarded to successful participants. This fun, informative, and thought provoking session was the brainchild of Mrs. Pam Bacon and the library staff. Kudos to all who enjoyed the activity.

Colleges the Class of 2011 will be attending
