Race for the Cure

The Susan G. Komen Foundation Cure for cancer takes a walk today. Susan died of breast cancer in 1980 after a three year battle with the disease. Their mission is to make the world free of breast cancer. The foundation was founded in 1982 by Nancy G. Brinker to carry out the promise made to her sister Susan to end cancer. The 21st annual walk, in Philadelphia, is to continue to “celebrate breast cancer survivorship, and memorialize those who lost their battles with the disease.”

The Komen Foundation is part of the world’s largest breast cancer organization. “The Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure embraces hundreds of thousands of people in our community in the Komen vision to end breast cancer forever… empowering people… ensuring quality care for all… and energizing science to find the cures.” Komen Foundation serves in 13 area counties: Pennsylvania: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, Philadelphia, York; New Jersey: Camden County; and Delaware: Kent, New Castle, Sussex.

The Race for the Cure starts this morning at the Philadelphia Art Museum. In one way or another all of us have known someone who has been touched by this disease. This post is intended to support friends who are taking their annual walk today to remember a loved one. If you cannot make the walk today, the foundation has other events throughout the year involving fundraisers, volunteers, and donations.

  1. A very beautiful article that I really enjoyed reading. I attended the & participated in the RACE FOR THE CURE walk & it was a blessing to see over 40,000 people attend. This article explains the history of this great event. Let us continue to pray & support these foundations as we continue to walk/race for the cure. Congrats Ms. Bee.
