Main Street Teacher Honored with the 2011 Excellence in Teaching Award

Chester Upland School District Teacher Anita Brown’s career was highlighted in the Delcotimes today for being selected along with 18 other Delaware County educators to be honored Thursday at the 2011 Partners in Learning Celebration. This event will showcase educators receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award. The award which was established in 2008 recognizes exceptional and innovative teachers “whose dedication has made a lasting influence on their students.”

Anita Brown actually started her career at Columbus Elementary School after graduating from Cheyney University in 1975. As a youth, she attended the former Watts School. She is currently a Special Education Teacher at Main Street School teaching kindergarten to 5th grade. She is a married mother of two adults, a son and a daughter. She is actively involved in the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., a teacher organization which supports our youth in the community. Mrs. Brown believes that her early teaching experience at Crozer-Chester Medical Center’s Child Adolescent Psychiatric Unit gave her “more insight into children’s connectivity in the classroom that we as teachers don’t see and understand.” She also believes that “making the connection with a child’s parents is paramount in understanding the psychological issues faced by the young student.”

Congratulations to Anita Brown and her fellow honorees for being honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award.
