Today’s Special Events in Chester

Kim Felton-Joseph, Mistress of Ceremonies
My day in Chester started out with “A Voice from the Past for the Future”, a play held at the Community Baptist Church by the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. XI Chapter. Every year the sorority puts on an African American History Program. The play highlighted African Americans who made a difference in the history of the United States. Parts in the play featured Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, Mary Church Terrell, Mary McLeod Bethume, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King, Jr. There were also singing, dancing, and cheering included in the program. People involved were sorority members, Kudos and Xinos youth groups, community members, teachers, and students. Lunch was served free. They put on a great show today.
James A. Bryan with Boys & Girls Club members and audience
The other play I saw today was at the Boys and Girls Club. The play, UP from the Past 1619-2009 written and produced by James A. Bryan, started out with the beginnings of slavery in the U.S. to present. This play also featured famous African Americans in history. The performers were boy and girls members of the club. They did a great Job.

I did want to fit the Motown with Jon Turk event from Crozer Library in but was unable to do so. I am sure it was a good event.

Tonight is the Pre-Valentine’s Day Fundraiser held at the YWCA, from 7-11 pm with a donation of $20.  Lady in Red Cabaret at the Minaret Temple, from 9-2am with a cover charge $20. I also believe there was a small event at the Art Center with music and Jamaican Food. I was not able to accept the invites but sounds like a great evening. Enjoy and be safe out there.
