HI-Q Competition in Chester

Chester High School hosted Academy Park and Penn Wood today in a rousing competition for the HI-Q Team. Yes, we do more than just compete in sports. The teams in competition had their 3rd and final match for the season. The first time Chester met for competition was with Archbishop Carroll and Christian Academy. Their second competition was with Radnor and Sun Valley High Schools. They came in 3rd place both times.  Ms. Viola Norman, English Teacher and HI-Q Team Advisor, said she is “very proud of the students. They have taken baby steps together and have done exceptional. Just when you think they would be discouraged, they were very encouraged.” Ten students have participated this year in the HI-Q Team. This is the first year for them and Ms. Norman. Chester did not compete last year. Brandon Smith, a 12th grade HI-Q Team member, said that being a member has taught him “very good morals and good study habits.”

Scott Paper Company in Chester was the first to start the HI-Q competition in 1948. This is the 63rd year of the competition. Chester has participated for most of those years. Chester does have some honorees listed from 2005-2009. Please check the website delcohiq.org for further information.

HI-Q Teams which are successful in the competition will go on to the semi-finals Tuesday, February 22 and Thursdays, February 24, 2011, then on to the Championship Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Drexelbrook. Sorry folks, Chester lost to Penn Wood in this forum. They came in third. But after not competing last year, it is certainly good to see them back in competition.  Great comeback HI-Q Team!

  1. Coming in 3rd place in all of our competitions didn't discourage me, it just made me try even harder for next year. I believe we did very well being though its our schools first year back since 2008. Im proud of our team this year and can only hope for the better next year.

  3. Hi-Q was an awesome competition. I enjoyed being the team captain along with Martin Turner. Hi-Q gave me a chance to get out and compete with the many other schools around our area. Great blog Mrs. Bee! I like reading your material please keep it up!
