United Way Speaks at the Rotary Luncheon

Doreen Storey, Executive Director/President, of the United Way was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Chester luncheon at the Cove Restaurant in Harrah’s yesterday. Ms. Story presented a comprehensive Power Point Presentation of the United Way based on the 2009-2010 Annual Report for Southeast Delaware County. The mission of the United Way of Southeast Delaware County (UWDELCO) is to provide leadership in a united effort in order to promote the health and well-being of the community and citizen of Delaware County. “Our community joined us in our effort to Give, Advocate, and Volunteer--this is how we Live United.” The United Way focus is on health, education, and Income.

Goals for Health:
Assembling Accessible and Affordable Health Care
Support Seniors and People with Disabilities
Addressing the Cause of Substance Abuse
Providing Pathways to Mental Health

Goals for Education:
Providing Access to Early Child Care, Development and Education
Encouraging Development of Parenting Skills
Providing Resources for Early Literacy and Literacy Development
Mobilizing Academic Achievement and School Completion
Supporting the Development of Life Skills and Character
Providing Pathways to Adult Education
Supporting Individuals with Development Differences

Goals for Income:
Meet Basic Needs
Encouraging Employment Skills Development
Assuring Access to Affordable Housing
Combating the Contributing Factors to Poverty
Addressing Causes of and Damage from Interpersonal Violence
Providing Pathways to Emergency Assistance and Situational/Disaster Services
