This morning there was a Coat Drive at Chester High School from 9 am-12:30 pm. The drive was spearheaded by Katrina Posey, the Executive Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent Dexter Davis of Chester Upland School District. This is the second year for the event. The event was brought to Chester through Operation Warm. Katrina Posey said, “The purpose is to make sure our kids are warm. The goals are to make sure our kids get what other districts get.” The coats are donated to Auto Dealerships in the area and distributed to Delaware County Districts and Agencies. The parents registered at the home school and the Parent Summit held two weeks ago. Today was the district wide pick for the coats parents registered for. The coats are given for students Pre-K to 8th grade. Older children and adults get coats through other agencies like City Team and Community Action Agency. There were volunteers from the 6 elementary schools, high school students doing community service, teachers, parent volunteers, security, and maintenance crew. Chester High School students Quashon Bradley and Mikea Emmens said, “It feels good helping others.” Chester High School Principal Darla Hammond was also in attendance for the event. Ms. Posey said that there was a steady stream of over 100 people participating in the Coat Drive. She said, “we are working together to make this happen.”
