Widener offers summer camps in science, business, and robotics


Chester, Pa. – With summer around the corner, Widener University is offering a variety of fun and educational summer camps for high school students in June and July. Parents still have time to register their children and can take advantage of early registration discounts for some of the camps.

Young Scientists Summer Mini-Camp
Day Camp: June 26 – June 28
New this year, the Young Scientists Summer Mini-Camp is the perfect place for high school students to explore subjects as diverse as biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, mathematics, and physics and astronomy. The hands-on program allows you to learn about science from Widener’s top-ranked faculty. You'll get to use Widener's telescope to observe Venus in the night sky. You'll learn college-level material about the exciting field of biochemistry. And, you'll get to use environmentally-friendly equipment as you learn about sustainability.
An optional stargazing in Widener’s observatory (weather permitting) will be held from 8:45 – 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuition (includes daily lunch) is $175 for early registration, $200 after June 15.

Engineering Summer Camp
Day Camp: June 25 – 28, 2018
Resident Camp: June 24 – 28, 2018
Since 1996, the Engineering Summer Camp has welcomed high school students to explore the fields of chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, robotics, and biomedical engineering by participating in fun hands-on activities. The expert Widener faculty and staff will lead students through a variety of activities including computer workshops, demonstrations, films, laboratory exercises, discussion groups, presentations and more.

Tuition for Day Camp is $450. Tuition for Resident Camp is $900.

Business Summer Camp
Day Camp: July 16 – 18
Female high school students can experience a highly interactive three-day event where they learn about branding – both personal and business. You will learn what makes you unique and how to market yourself to colleges and industry. We will take head shots, teach you about your personal branding and show you how to present yourself to the world. You will also hear from industry leaders that will share their message about branding. Highlights of the week include a tour of UPS, a Wilmington Blue Rocks game, and learning from Widener’s top faculty in a college learning environment.

A $50 non-refundable deposit is required. The deposit is refunded if your application is not accepted.

Robotics Summer Camp
Day Camp: July 23 – July 26
The Engineering Robotics Summer Camp will introduce high school students to the exciting world of robotics engineering. Students will work with leaders in the robotics field along with Widener faculty and staff to learn about the rapidly growing industry. This exciting program will teach students the technical skills they need to design and develop a variety of robotic systems. This program takes place ahead of Widener’s launch of the new robotics major offered in the School of Engineering beginning in the fall 2018 semester.

Tuition for the camp is $400, which includes lunch.
Registration is fully refundable through Monday, July 9. After July 9, a 50% registration refund is available until Monday, July 16. No refunds will be granted after this date. 
Students entering grade 9 in September 2018 are eligible to participate.
