The heat
wave that was outside found its way inside the Fred Pickett Gymnasium as the Clippers
scorched the Bucs 40-9 in the first half. Michael Smith led the charge in the
first quarter scoring 7 of his 11 points. Brian Randolph III and Rahmee Gilbert
each knocked down a trey while Timothy Johnston and Kylair Blackston each added
put-back buckets. Chester was just as impressive on the defensive end holding
their opponents to 4 points. Chester - 17, Interboro - 4. In the second quarter
sophomore Rahmee Gilbert took over slicing his way to the basket for 8 of his
team/career high 13 points. Sophomore Zahmir Carroll and Randolph both added 4
points, Smith and Isaiah Schmidt
followed with 2 and Kavon Spells saw early action and knocked down a trey.
Chester's 23 point quarter coupled with another defensive gem limiting the Bucs
to 5 points resulted with the Clippers taking a 40-9 lead into intermission.
The teams played even in the 3rd quarter and Chester led 51-40 going into the
final period. Junior Javan Graham started the 4th quarter and took advantage of
the opportunity scoring 6 points. Sophomore Malik Langley and senior Zahid
Ferguson came off the bench to contribute 4 points apiece while Carroll
completed the scoring with 2 points.
Carroll
finished the night with 8 points and a career high 8 rebounds as well as 2
blocked shots. Gilbert's stat sheet included 2 assists, 3 rebounds and a career
high of 6 steals. Although he only finished with 9 points, Randolph filled the stat
sheet with 4 assists, 5 steals and 6 rebounds. Blackston added 5 points and 5
rebounds to the cause.
Chester
kept its 2018 3-game win streak alive and improved its record to 4-5 overall and
2-0 in league play.
Next
up for the Clippers will be Philadelphia's Bartram Braves who visit the Clip
Joint on Saturday, January 13th. The JV will tipoff at 5:00 pm with the Varsity
to follow.
