Students to showcase art at Nebula Gallery in Chester

Chester, Pa. – It’s not often that college students get to showcase their art in a professional gallery, but that is exactly what Widener University students will do at the Nebula Gallery in Chester. The art will be on display at an opening reception for the Widener University Student and Faculty Art Exhibition on Friday, Dec. 1. In addition, students will be complementing the visual arts with poetry and spoken word performances.
“This is a unique opportunity for students and faculty to engage with the Chester art community,” said John Bush, owner of Nebula Gallery. “For the students who enter the exhibition, this could be the start of their professional careers as artists, and it gives them the opportunity to add to their portfolios and meet other artists in the region.”
Widener University has had a strong relationship with the Nebula Gallery since it opened in June 2017.  The Nebula Gallery has been at the forefront of an artistic and cultural renaissance in downtown Chester by leading various community initiatives.
Hannah Guth, a Widener sophomore majoring in social work and gender studies, has worked at Nebula Gallery as a full-time program manager. She created a partnership with Widener’s Urban Ecology course and helps to manage the class’s field experience at the Nebula community gardens.  Guth has also organized and curated multiple art shows.
She looks forward to further bridging the university and gallery through the Widener University Student and Faculty Art Exhibition.
“It is important for students without a heavy service learning component to break out of the Widener bubble and experience the Chester art scene.” Guth said. “I am excited to help my classmates do that.”
Members of the media are invited to attend the reception. Please contact John Bush (267-259-8985) or Hannah Guth (610-883-6416) if you have any questions.
