The 2017-18 edition of the Chester
High Boys Basketball Team will be heading in a new direction under the
leadership of their new Head Coach, Keith Taylor. At the end of last season
Coach Yarbray was informed his services were no longer desired based on the
School Board's decision to go in another direction. Coach Taylor served 13
successful years as Chester's JV Coach under Coach Fred Pickett and is
looking forward to the challenge of taking the helm of the Clipper ship. Coach
Taylor is not setting a ceiling on how high his team will soar.
Coach Taylor's roster will consists
of just five returning varsity players, junior Michael Smith, senior Brian
Randolph III, junior Rahmaad DeJarnette, senior Timothy Johnson and junior
Rahnel Sparks. The roster will be filled by sophomores Rahmee Gilbert,
Zahmir Carroll & Malik Langley, junior Javan Graham and seniors Zhaid
Ferguson, Isaiah Schmidt, Kavon Spells and Kylair Blackston.
Coach Taylor will be depending
5'11" point guard Michael "Man-Man" Smith, 6'3" swingman
Rahmaad "Maady" DeJarnette and 6'3" forward Brian Randolph III
to guard the perimeter while 6'4" Timothy Johnston and 6'3" Rahnel
Sparks will control the boards.
The Clippers will open the season
on Saturday, December 9th in the 5th Annual Fred Pickett Classic against the
Lower Merion Aces with the dedication of the new gym floor honoring legendary
Head Coach Fred Pickett Jr. The young Clippers will be challenged with road
games against J.P. McCaskey and defending State Champion Reading Knights. They
will return home on December 22nd for the 2nd Annual Rondae
Hollis-Jefferson Classic against Delaware power Sanford. The team will face-off
against the defending District 1 Champion Penncrest Lions on December 29th at Widener University in
the 13th Annual Pete & Jameer Nelson Holiday Classic. There will be no days
off for this inexperienced team as the calendar closes on 2017. With the
incoming new year the hopes are the lessons learned will carry the team pass
Bayard Rustin, Newark and Christiana in the first week of 2018 before they head
into league play. Sandwiched into their league schedule will be home games
against Bartram. Harrisburg and York.
