Chester - 68, Chichester - 64
Report by Terry Thomas
The Chester Clippers
(15-6, 9-0) recaptured the Del Val Championship with a come from behind 68-64
victory over the Chichester Eagles. With the win Chester returns to the top
spot in the Del Val for the first time since 2014 and earns Coach Yarbray his 5th
title in his 8 years as Head Coach. The home court was just what the Eagles
needed in this contest as just about every shot they put up found the bottom of
the net in the first quarter and the Clippers trailed 15-20. Chester closed the
gap to 26-27 mid way through the second before Chichester finished the quarter
on 10-5 run and the Clippers looking up at a 37-31 deficit. Chester found their
spark in the third and outscored the Eagles 21-5 to take control of the contest
52-42 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Senior Khaleeq Campbell took control
scoring 11 of his game high 26 points in the period. The Clippers big man in
the middle Maurice Henry made his presence felt in the period limiting their
opponent to no second chance points by blocking 4 of his career high 7 shots
and hauling in 4 of his 10 rebounds. He also produced two thunderous dunks for
4 of his 10 points enroute to a double-double on the afternoon. Deshawn Hinson
once again in the starting five produced 5 of his 11 points giving him his
second double digit games in the last three games. Any thoughts of a upset by
the home team was offset by the production from the Clippers back-court of
Campbell and Stanley Davis who combined for 14 of their team's 16 fourth
quarter points. Davis finished with 6 of his 13 in the period and he joined
Henry with a double-double as he collected a career high 11 rebounds. Jamar
Sudan knocked down two key free throws downs the stretch to aid in keeping the
Eagles at bay.
Dymon Colbert contributed all 5 of his points in the first half and
Donald Hodges hit 1 of 2 free throws in the 3rd period to complete the team's
scoring.
Chester will return to the Clip Joint on
Friday when the Penn Wood Patriots visit to close out League
schedule and the regular season.
The District-1 Tournament Committee will meet and announce on Sunday
