Chester
- 72, Academy Park - 57
Report by Terry Thomas
Chester (14-6, 8-0) cruised pass the Academy Park
Knights 72-57 in the steamy Clip Joint to take control of the Del Val League.
The heat of the gym coupled with a career high game of 15 points from senior
Jahmi Baily-Green and a season high of points (17) and rebounds (12) for junior
Jamar Sudan was too much for the visiting Knights. The temperature impacted
both teams in the first quarter but Chester ability to play ten players and
spread their 13 first quarter points among six players. Senior Khaleeq Campbell
led the way with 4 points and Donald Hodges, Bailey-Green, Sudan, and Maurice
Henry each contributed a bucket. Stanley Davis connected on 1 of 2 free throws
to complete the scoring. The second quarter was a fast paced offensive
explosion as both teams found the bottom of the basket and the Clippers went
into intermission now leading by 10 points, 36-26. Campbell once again led the
way with 7 of his 13 points, Sudan dropped in 6, Bailey-Green layed in 4 and
Deshawn Hinson, Dymon Colbert and Shaquan Francis added their names to the
scoring column with 2 points apiece totally 23 Clipper points. Chester spread
the floor in the 3rd quarter and the Knights had no answer for their slashing
guards as they drove to the basket at will. And, with Sudan controlling the
boards, the Clippers were able to push their lead to 16 points at 52-36 with 2:28
remaining in the quarter. The quarter ended with the Clippers leading 54-40. In
the fourth quarter Jahmi Baily-Green skill set was on full display as he
applied pressure defensively and sliced and diced his way down the lane finger
rolling his way to 7 points which allowed the Clippers fight off any chance the
Knights had of a fourth quarter comeback.
Although Chester's big man Maurice Henry was in foul trouble he was still able to produce 7 points and grab 9 rebounds. When Henry went to the bench senior Jamal Jones was more than effective as a replacement with 3 assists, 2 blocks, 6 rebounds and 1 steal even though he did not score a points. Junior Shaquan Francis had a productive 2nd quarter hauling in 3 rebounds in his short time on the court.
The Clippers will travel to Boothwyn on Thursday afternoon to take on the Chichester Eagles in another Del Val League contest. Tipoff is slated for 3:30.
