Chester
- 52, Glen Mills - 44
Report by Terry Thomas
The Clippers keep their 2016 winning streak alive at
five games with a 52-44 victory over the Glen Mills Battlin' Bulls. With the
win Chester improves their record to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in Del Val League
play. Junior Jamar Sudan's double-double of 11 rebounds and a team high 11
points led the way for the Clippers. He scored 6 in the opening quarter and
senior Stanley Davis contributed 4 of his 8 points and Chester led 16-9 at the
end of the quarter. Chester's bench played the majority of the 2nd quarter with
Donald Hodges leading the way with 3 points. Larry Yarbray Jr. and Jordan Camper
each added 2 points and the Clippers took a 26-22 edge into intermission. A
put-back by Sudan and a trey from Marquis Collins gave the Clipper a 5-0 start
to the 3rd, a foul shot by the Bulls and the score now read Chester - 31, Glen
Mills - 23 at the 4:57
mark. After a couple buckets by the Battlin' Bulls and the Clippers would call
a time-out to settle things down with the clock showing 3:18 and a 31-27 score. A
7-0 Chester run over the next 1:40
started by reserve Jamal Jones who would score an old fashioned three pointer
and the Clippers lead was now 38-27. Jones completed his team's scoring in the
period with another bucket to finish with 5 points and give his teammates a
42-29 lead. Senior Maurice Henry added his only 5 points in the final period as
the Clippers connected on timely free throws to hold off Battlin' Bulls.
While limited to only 4 points in the contest, Marquis Collins added 1 assist, 3 blocks, 8 rebounds and 1 steal to his stat sheet. Jamal Jones also made his presence felt on the boards by hauling in 7 rebounds.
On Thursday, January 14th, Chester will travel to Sharon Hill for another Del Val League game as they take on the Academy Park Knights. The JV game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
