Who: About SIG Combibloc: SIG Combibloc is a global food and beverage packaging company located in Chester, Pa. SIG believes in uniting the community, compassionate people, and companies into a sustainable partnership that increases educational opportunities all young people deserve. SIG is the organizer of the event. For more information about SIG Combibloc, visit http://www.sig.biz/usa.
About CUSA: The Chester Upland School of the Arts (CUSA) is a public school with over 400 students located in the under-resourced community of Chester, Pa. CUSA’s mission is to improve the community and prepare children for success as individuals and as active, responsible citizens through a marriage between arts, dance, and education.
Why: CUSA teachers have been inspiring leaders, at times working with no pay, donating materials, and overcoming obstacles each day. One of the school’s major challenges is the lack of a safe outdoor playground for children to play, be physically active, and release surplus-energy and stress. Among many goals, SIG strives to raise $50,000 in order to rebuild CUSA’s playground before classes start in September 2015.
Who should attend/how: Attendance is open to the entire public. Ticket prices are $30 for a single ticket, and $100 for 4 tickets.
To buy tickets or donate, visit https://www.localevelevents.com/events/details/1119. Every single dollar will benefit CUSA. Donations are 100% tax deductible.
When: Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 5-8 p.m.
Where: The Wharf Waterfront, 2501 Seaport Drive, Chester, Pa.

Chester High School Law Day 2015

Assistant District Attorney Erica Parham and Judge Linda Cartisano

Chester High School wrapped up Law Day events with an annual visit from Assistant District Attorney Erica Parham and Judge Linda Cartisano. They discussed several nationwide current events including the riots in Baltimore, incidents involving law enforcement, and prominent cases in the news. The Law Day theme was Magna Carta. Based on a hypothetical situation, students discussed whether there was evidence sufficient to sustain a conviction and whether there was legally adequate defense to the offenses charged; a very complex case with lots of twist to hold students’ interest in the legal process. Looking forward to next year’s Law Day.
