Chester - 70, J.P. McCaskey - 74

Report by Terry Thomas

The Chester Clippers (1-2) let one slip through their hands as they fall to the J.P. McCaskey Red Tornadoes 70-74 before a standing room only crowd in Lancaster. The Clippers showed no ill effects from a two hour bus ride (got stuck in the Lancaster Outlet Shopping Center traffic) as senior Marquis Collins led the way with 6 of his team and career high 19 points. Junior Ahrod Carter assisted with 5 of his season high 13 points and four other Clippers joined in the scoring as Chester held a 19-15 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The Red Raiders found their range from the field and the charity strip (8 of 13) in the second and stormed out with a 21-12 margin and the Clippers found themselves in a 31-36 hole at the intermission. Junior Jamar Sudan took control in the paints in the 3rd where he scored 12 of his 14 points to join Collins and Carter in double figures but it was not enough to offset the long range shooting of McCaskey as they drained 5 treys in the period and stretched their lead to 9 points at the end of the third quarter. Chester 52, McCaskey 61. With Sudan and 6'8" center Maurice Henry eliminated due to fouls, Collins took his turn in the paint in the final quarter where he scored 10 points as Chester was able to tie the score at 70 with 44.2 seconds remaining in the contest. After McCaskey took the lead with a put-back basket, Chester was running their offense when an unforced error saw the ball go out of bounds. The Clippers held defensively and called their last time with 12.2 seconds left in the contest. After several shot attempts, senior Dymon Colbert was called for his fifth foul trying to get rebound position and they walked the length of the court for two McCaskey foul shots. Now down by four, McCaskey celebrated their first win in nine tries against Chester under the guidance of Coach Yarbray.

The Clippers will return to action of Saturday evening, December 19th when William Penn York visits the Clip Joint. The JV game tips off at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow.
