MEDIA, Pa. – Widener University and
the Media Arts Council will feature two local authors in their co-sponsored
State Street Reading Series on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. Alan Drew, a fiction
writer and associate professor of English and creative writing at Villanova
University, and Nathalie Anderson, a poet and professor of English at
Swarthmore College, will share excerpts of their work with the community at the
Media Arts Center Gallery at 609 W. State St. in Media, Pa.
Readings are held every other month
at the Gallery. The event runs for two hours, but each writer only reads for
about 20 minutes to allow ample time for conversation and networking. Books by
the authors are available for purchase. The reading is free to attend, and
reservations are not required.
Drew is the author of the novel
“Gardens of Water,” which is set in a small town outside of Istanbul and
examines the relationship between two families – one Kurdish and one American.
Drew has traveled throughout Europe and Asia, as well as the Middle East, and
his experiences have informed his writing. Anderson’s first collection of
poetry, “Following Fred Astaire,” won the 1998 Washington Prize from The Word
Works, and her subsequent collections have continued to earn her special
recognitions and numerous awards.
