Chester Children's Chorus Summer Events 2015

The Chester Children’s Chorus will be finishing up the Summer Learning Program with several public events at Swarthmore College’s Lang Music Building that will be sure to entertain and inspire all. An open house event is scheduled for July 21 at Lang from 10:30 a.m.-12 noon where guests can be a camper for a day. “Our goal is to show the community all of the exciting activities we incorporate into the program,” explains Executive Director, Kirsten Halker-Kratz. Classes in science, culinary arts, photography, and literature are just a few of the class offerings.

A science fair will exhibit all of the experiments and projects completed in the six-week program on Thursday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. in Eldridge Commons of the Science Center, and an open dress rehearsal follows at 2:00 p.m. Choral concerts will be in Lang Concert Hall Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. Damon a third-grader in the Chorus, is excited for his first performance. “I cannot wait for the audience to hear the girls’ and boys’ harmonies come together.”
The chorus, directed by founder, John Alston, and assistant music director, Sean Tripline, will be performing a program of classical music by composers Durufle, Mozart, and Faure, as well as a jazz tribute. “It’s going to be awesome,” a Concert Choir student exclaimed. “The music is interesting and, incorporates many different genres.”
Modern dance, hip-hop, and African dance will be featured in the dance performance led by instructors Jeannine Osayande, Kim Ryan, and Shanae Willis on Wednesday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. Art and photography will be on display during all events.

The Summer Learning Program is a full-day, 6-week summer camp that includes academic enrichment and classes in the arts. All events are free and open to the public.
