Chester Boys Basketball sailed pass Chichester

By Terry Thomas

The Clippers improved their record to 9-3 and 3-0 in league play as they sailed past the Chichester Eagles 76-48 in an afternoon tilt. Chester put nine of the ten players that saw action in the scoring column led by senior Keyonte Watkins with a game high of 20 points. Joining Watkins in double figures were sophomore Jordan Camper with a career high of 13 points and juniors Deshawn Hinson and Marquis Collins with 11 and 10 points respectively. Hinson also had a career high in both points and 3-pointers made with three. Watkins took control of the helm in the first quarter with 10 points and Maurice Henry chimed in with 5 of his 6 as Chester doubled-up their opponents to the tune of 22-11. Defensively the Clippers put the clamps on the Eagles in the 2nd quarter limiting them to only one field goal and stretched their margin to 15 points (34-19) at the half. Collins led the way with 5 points in the quarter. The third quarter opened in traditional Chester fashion with a 13-3 run forcing the Eagles into a timeout at the 4:15 mark and trailing 47-22. Camper made his presence felt in the 3rd with two put-back dunks enroute to 6 of his points, Watkins added another 7 and Collins drained 5 points. The Clippers sailed into the final period now ahead 55-28. The reserves came through offensively for the Clippers in the 4th led by Hinson's 8 points including two treys and junior Jamal Jones contribution of 4 points. Chester also connected on 7 of 7 free throws in the 4th for the final margin of victory.

Chester's teamwork was demonstrated as they distributed 15 assists on their 28 made baskets led by Watkins who tied his career high of 5 and junior Stanley Davis who established a career high of 4 assists to go along with his 6 points. Along with setting a career high in points, Campers also had a career high of 9 rebounds for the Clippers. The team combined for 8 blocked shots in the contest.

Chester will continue league play when they travel to Glenolden to take on the Interboro Bucs on Thursday, January 15th. The JV game is slated to tip-off at 5:30 pm with the Varsity to follow around 7:00.
