Chester
(10-3, 4-0) remains undefeated in Del Val League action with a 68-56 win
over the host Interboro Bucs. Chester was led by senior Keyonte Watkins who
finished with a game high 17 points and Marquis Collins who joined him with 15
points. Collins also filled the stat sheet with 4 assists, 3 blocked shots
and 5 rebounds. Maurice Henry led the way in the first scoring all 7 of
his points as the Clippers jumped out to a 19-10 lead. Watkins drained two
treys in the second and Chester had a 31-24 lead at intermission. The Clippers
uncharacteristically fell asleep defensively in the third quarter as the Bucs
scored 22 points to take a 46-43 lead into the final quarter.
Chester awoke in the 4th quarter with an 11-5 run to take control of
the game 54-51 at the 3:34
mark. Coming out of the Interboro timeout, Chester continued their run scoring
6 unanswered points in the next 1:04
as the Clippers called for a timeout at 2:30 ahead 60-51. Tonight was not going
to be a repeat of last season when the Bucs upset the Clippers here in
Glenolden. Junior Jahmi Bailey helps secure the win with 7 of his 8 points in
the final period including the Clippers final four points. Chester connected on
9 of 12 4th quarter free throws to keep the Bucs at bay.
Nine of the ten Clippers who saw action put their name in the scoring column and Chester distributed the ball with an assist on half of their 24 made field goals.
Chester will return to action on Saturday, January 17th when they travel to Lower Merion High School to take on Imhotep at 5:15 in the Kobe Bryant Classic.
