Chester High School Lockdown

Due to overwhelming response to the inaccuracies of news reports this morning:

At about 8:06 am, Chester High School “was alerted to police activity outside the building around 9th and Barclay Streets. Following standard operating procedure the school was secured (locked down) not allowing anyone in or out while the police investigated the matter.”

Since the incident was not school related, “At about 8:40 am, the Police Commissioner gave the approval to lift the secured lockdown and the regular school day continued.”

In reference to the incident outside the school, all questions should be directed to the Chester Police Department.

School staff was debriefed by Chester High School Principal Constance McAlister. Letters to parents were also sent home.

Crozer-Keystone and Philadelphia Union Create Delaware County Poster Contest Through Kicks for Kids Program

Crozer-Keystone Health System and the Philadelphia Union have created a Delaware County poster contest for local students to demonstrate their artistic skills and win tickets for the New England Revolution vs. Philadelphia Union soccer game at PPL Park on May 17. A total of 50 tickets will be awarded by Crozer-Keystone to 13 talented students and their families, through the Philadelphia Union’s Kicks for Kids program.

This contest is open to all Delaware County students between the ages of 7 to 12, as of May 17. The students will be judged in three age divisions (7-8, 9-10, 11-12), and are asked to create a poster with the theme of “Soccer, Health and Community.” Posters can not be larger than 18” X 24” and only markers, pens, crayons and/or pencils are to be used. All completed posters should have a label placed in the lower right hand corner with the child’s name, child’s gender, age as of May 17, school, parent’s name(s), and contact phone number.

All posters should be dropped off in the main lobby of the Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake, 300 Evergreen Drive, Glen Mills, Pa, between March 28 and April 25, in a bin marked “Delaware County Poster Contest.” The Medical Plaza is open Monday to Thursday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday. If you are unable to drop off the poster at the Crozer Medical Plaza, you may scan the poster to ckhspublicrelations@crozer.org.

During the week of April 28, Crozer-Keystone will determine the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners for each of the three age divisions plus one honorable mention student.  A parent for each of the thirteen students will be contacted and arrangements will be made to provide four tickets to the May 17 game for each winner, and two tickets for the honorable mention student. The winning artwork along with the names of the students will be posted on the social media sites and websites for both Crozer-Keystone and the Philadelphia Union during the month of May.

Kicks for Kids is a national marketing platform through Major League Soccer that enables teams to develop community outreach programs with corporate partners. The Philadelphia Union launched this program in 2014 with Crozer-Keystone as the first corporate partner. In addition to the Delaware County poster contest winners, Crozer-Keystone has agreed to donate additional 2014 Philadelphia Union tickets for local organizations that include: Soccer for Success, Boys & Girls Club of Chester, Wellness Center at Community Hospital, Unionville Recreational Association, Drexel Hill Raiders, and Kids Asthma Management Program.

Chester Children's Chorus looking for Families of Chester's 2013 Homicide Victims to Honor

The CCC is looking for families of Chester's 2013 homicide victims. John Alston has written a beautiful tribute piece that is going to be showcased in the spring concerts on May 9 and 10th. Unfortunately, we are having a difficult time finding everybody and wondered if you might blog post a reach out type message because we would like to invite them and honor their loved ones.

Arizona vs. Wisconsin

Wisconsin head coach and Chester native Bo Ryan celebrates after cutting down the net after his team’s 64-63 overtime Saturday. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong)

The game between Arizona and Wisconsin was super competitive. Although I did not have any stake in the game, it was fun to watch two Chester greats compete, Bo Ryan and Rondae Jefferson. Team Bo and team Rondae was all in fun. There were other people on each team involved in the competition.  Those 3 pointers on either side was jaw dropping. These guys can play basketball. The game was amazing. But in the end only one team can win the battle. Wisconsin won by 1 point, 64-63, over Arizona in overtime. I was on team Rondae hoping for a win. I was a little sad but not enough to start a riot. Coach Ryan was very eloquent in his interview after the game when he spoke of his father’s passing and what it meant for him to win. This was coach Ryan’s first time, with his team, in the final four and he has been at this a long time. Jefferson is young. He still can make it to the final four and beyond. Jefferson did a great job in Arizona for his first year. Congrats to coach Ryan and great job to both teams. More about the game Here

This one game serves as an example that a lot of talented people comes out of Chester.
