Clippers Boys Basketball Season comes to an End

Terry Thomas Report

Chester's season comes to an end at the hands of the LaSalle College Explorers 61-55. The lead changed hands several times in the first quarter before a trey by Keyonte Watkins gave the Clippers the lead 11-10 at the end of the first quarter. With both of Chester's 6'8" bigs sidelined due to foul trouble, Tyrell Sturdivant with 3 and Gabe Adesina with 2, the Clippers relinquished their inside presence thus allowing the Explorers to take control in the second quarter. However, a short jumper by Mahir Johnson at the buzzer tied the score at 23 apiece at the intermission. The Clippers began to misfire in the third both from the field and the free throw line and defensively they were just a step slow which results in them trailing 32-39 at the end of the period. Trailing the entire quarter, the Clippers sharp shooter Mahir Johnson finally found his mark producing 16 of his game high 26 points in the fourth. After forcing a couple turnovers by the Explorers, Mahir's third trey of the quarter cut the deficit to 51-48. Chester forced another turnover but the official ruled that the Clippers at not established themselves inbound and awarded the ball to the Explorers and thus ending any hopes of a Chester comeback.

Tyrell Sturdivant finished with 9 points, Conrad Chambers and Keyonte Watkins each scored 7 points while Khaleeq Campbell, Brewster Ward and Gabe Adesina contributed 2 points apiece to complete the scoring for the Clippers.
