Chester Upland among Schools to get help from PDE

The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is sending academic recovery liaisons to aid 92 schools named as priority schools under the new Pennsylvania School Performance Profile evaluating standards.

PDE released a list of 92 priority schools last week. The decision was based on schools with “poor performance on standardized tests and whether they can receive federal aid for either high concentrations of low-income students or poor test scores.”

Six schools were identified in Delaware County. Chester Upland which appears on the list had four eligible schools, “including Chester High School, the STEM High School and Showalter Intermediate School. The latter two schools are now housed in the same building.” The list also included Columbus Elementary School which was closed in December. Columbus will be removed from the list since it is now closed. “Chester Upland spokeswoman Becky Taylor said district officials are awaiting more word from the state regarding its access to a liaison.”
