MAYOR JOHN LINDER AND STEVE HIGHSMITH DISCUSS STATE OF THE CITY OF CHESTER

Hon. Mayor John A. Linder addressed business partners and city stakeholders during his annual State of the City address at Widener University’s Latham Hall, Tuesday morning. The 2013 installment of his address to the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce sponsors and membership, potential members, and Chester City Council took on an alternative presentation from years past as moderator, WCAU-NBC10 host Steve Highsmith held a town hall style interview for attendees. Widener University, Crozer-Keystone, Boeing, NBC10, Comcast, and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event providing the audience with answers to their questions regarding advancements made since the onset of the Linder administration in January of 2012. Mayor Linder explained the role of Chester’s Strong Cities, Strong Communities (SC2) Team in establishing the Healthy Chester Coalition, Chester’s ‘Let’s Move!’ designation, and Faith Based initiative, among other programs in progress. Mayor Linder also spoke about the city’s new Free Trade Zone designation and its potential to spur the economy through port development complimenting the Chester City Planning Department’s Vision 20/20 plan to revitalize the city landscape. Speaking about the network collaboration of city resources and organizations Mayor Linder stated, “We are putting our ideas together, getting expertise in the room, to make a plan and move the agenda.”

Mayor Linder also expressed his resolve to continue vigilance and action in law enforcement activity citing reduced crime indices in the city of Chester, sweeping confiscation of illegal firearms, and community involvement. Through cooperation with local businesses to increase camera coverage of store perimeters and pending negotiations to acquire increased street lighting, Mayor Linder believes Chester will enhance and encourage future investments in Chester.

Comcast Network Public Access Channel 10 will carry a broadcast of the 2013 State of The City in coming weeks. A schedule will be made available on the channel and Chester City website.
