Business Summer Camp
Many high school students remain
uncertain about what field of study they will pursue in college until last
minute.
Especially, there is a general lack
of knowledge about the career opportunities in business fields and what type of
college education will prepare them for these opportunities. In order to help
these students make better choices, the Widener University School of Business
Administration is preparing four types of educational programs for high school
students. Through these programs, we would like to introduce these students to
the opportunities that lie ahead in the field of business while at the same
time exposing them to some college learning experience.
Summer
Business Camp Offered July 8-11, 2013
During last year's Summer Camp, Dr.
Joe Hargadon and members of the SBA faculty conducted a highly interactive
event. Each day the students learned how to start a business. They bought
supplies, learned about income statements, and got a taste of what it was like
to be a young entrepreneur.
Highlights of the week include:
- Learn about Financial Literacy
- Design a website
- Team work at dollar stores to buy supplies for sales at University Center
- Selling products at Widener University
- Bowling in Teams
- Tour of PPL Park to see where the Philadelphia Union MLS team plays
- Presentations to parents and quests
