The Salvation Army volunteers were serving up Thanksgiving meal to feed a 150 people on Thanksgiving Day. Among the volunteers were several groups from Chester. Organizer of the event Edith Hilton is on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. Ms. Hilton also represented Chester Rotary, COSA, and Business and Professional Women. Chester High School advisor Farela Howie brought the Key Club, Rotary Club, and the Cheerleaders to help serve meals. Rose Robinson and Shannon Matthews helped to supervise the Xinos and the Kudos youth groups for the NSPDK. These groups come out regularly every year to serve the Chester community.

New to the community is Major Ervin McKoy who took on the job in July as Commanding Officer of the Chester Crops. Major McKoy works with his wife Anna at the Chester branch of the Salvation Army. Major McKoy started in the North Philadelphia Salvation Army when he was 19 years old. He has served in branches of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Major McKoy said, “My focus is getting the shelter out of debt. The shelter has a $46,000 dollar deficit.” He is hoping to reach his goal with the Merry Christmas Fund by partnering with the Delaware County Daily Times. Major McKoy said, “Once that's reached we can focus on after school programs like the computer lab and sports fellowship programs.”
