Chester High School Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony

Chester High School Athletic Hall of Fame held its 21st Annual Induction Ceremony on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Concordville Inn, Concordville, PA. As usual a great ceremony held by the Hall of Fame selection committee: Tamika Friend, Keith Taylor, Albert Francis, Eugene Davis, Fred Pickett, Kedrick Harris, Darrin Pearsall, James Springfield, Larry Yarbray, Derrick Spence, Carlton Gordy, and Eric Jones. The Co-facilitators were John Francis and Mark Freeman. 

Notable moments were my conversations with Frank May, May's Water Ice, received C-Pride Award; Martin Turner, Widener University Sophomore Football Star who played Chester football, basketball, and track, received a book scholarship; and Shakiyl Smith, the victim of a shooting in 2008 that left him paralyzed beneath his neck, received matching funds for stem cell research from Youth Interlock and the Hall of Fame Committee.

Na’eem Scott (Basketball) 1998-2001: First Team All Delco 2001, First Team All Del Val 2001, Member of 2000 State Championship Team, and Career assist leader at Chester High School

Tom Gildea (Track) 1946-1949: Won 6 Varsity Letters from 1946-49, Member of the record setting relay team at Lower Merion 1948, Member of Delco Championship Team 1948-49, Member of record setting suburban team (mile at the Penn Relays 1949, and played 2 years of Varsity Football

Crystal Conquest (Track) 1999-2002: 4 Times All Delco First Team 1999-2002 Indoor Track, 3 Times All Delco First Team 2000-2002 Outdoor Track, Member of the Sprint Medley Relay that finished first at 2001 National-Nike Indoor Classic, 3rd at the 2002 National-Nike Classic 200 meter dash, Member of the Del-Val Championship Team 1999-2001, and 1st in 220 meter dash girls Indoor Championship 2002

Derrick Minter (Baseball) 1989-1993: Member of the Athletic Hall of Fame for outstanding performance, 1st Team All Del-Val 1993, All Delco Honorable Mention 1993, and M.V.P. of 9th annual Joseph J. Barrett, Sr. Memorial All Star Game 1993

Theresa Flood (Track) 1978-1982: Team Captain for 2 years 1981-82, Student Athlete of the week Philadelphia Inquirer 1981-82 season, Member of record setting 4 X 100 Relay Team at the Districts 1981, Member of State Championship Team 1981, Member of Cross Country Team

Greg Jackson (Football) 1997-2000: 1st Team All Delco 2000, Member of the 1997 Del-Val Championship Team, All Del-Val First Team 1999 and 2000, All Del-Val honorable mention

Ranisha Childress (Basketball) 1998-2001: 4 year member of the varsity, All Del-Co Honorable Mention 1999, and 2nd Team All Delco Team 2001

MacMatherson Miller (Football) posthumously: 1st Team All Del Val 1999 & 2000, 1st Team All Delco 2000, 1st Team All Area 2000, and Player of the week numerous time during the 2000 season

Eugene Campbell (Baseball) 1985-1987: 1st Team All Del-Val 1987, 2nd Team All Del-Val 1985 and 86, and All Delco Honorable Mention 1986 and 87

Frank May C-Pride Award: Four years of basketball at Chester High, Play at Millersville earning Honorable Mention NAIA Junior season, Coach at Interboro winning the Del-Val League 1969-70 season, Won State Title while coaching at Delaware County Community College, Member of Delaware County Hall of Fame, and Member of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame, Delco Chapter

Dr. Earl Pearsall, Jr. 2012 Lawson Showell Special Services Award Recipient: Founder and Chairperson of Youth Interlock Society, an academic enrichment and athletic development organization; Recognized for his service to the community as a teacher, mentor, and basketball coach for over 35 years.
