Head coach Larry Yarbray (middle) and Chester hope to extend a 58-game
win streak behind (from left to right) Richard Granberry, Conrad Chambers,
Darius Robinson and Arizona verbal commit Rondae Jefferson.
Players to watch: Rondae Jefferson (6-6, Sr., G/F, Arizona verbal commit), Conrad Chambers (6-0, Jr., G), Richard Granberry (6-5, Sr., F), Darius Robinson (6-1, Sr., G), Isaiah Warren (5-7, Sr., G), Rashan DeJarnette (5-9, Sr., G), Diamonte Reason (6-3, Sr., G), James Kirksey (6-4, Sr., F), Marquis Collins (6-6, Fr., F)
Strengths: Chester expects to win and win big each and every season. The program owns eight state titles – including two in a row – and with Jefferson back along with six other returners and nine experienced varsity performers on the roster, the expectations have never been higher. Jefferson is a consensus Top 50 recruit nationally that can play virtually any position on the floor at the high school level. Robinson was a clutch performer a year ago and the Clippers beefed up in the offseason with three talented transfers in Chambers, Warren and Kirksey. Collins is a highly touted freshman. Question marks: The Clippers enter the season riding a 58-game win streak. Will the pressure of extending the unbeaten run be too much for Yarbray's squad to handle? In addition to a trip to Florida for the City of Palms Classic, Chester will bump heads with Patterson (Baltimore), Whitney Young (Chicago) and defending Pennsylvania AAA state champ Neumann-Goretti (Philadelphia) in nonleague action. |
