CHIEF RECOVERY OFFICER FOR THE CHESTER UPLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT TO HOST MORE PUBLIC MEETINGS

TO DISCUSS GOALS, CHALLENGES, SEEK PUBLIC INPUT

Chester Upland School District Chief Recovery Officer Joseph P. Watkins will host two additional public meetings this week and next as he and his team of financial and academic experts continue developing the financial and academic recovery plan for the district. Recently the Pennsylvania Education Secretary granted a second 30-day extension to the plan’s deadline, to Nov. 15.

CRO Watkins will host forums at Chester Upland School of the Arts (CUSA) this Thursday and at Shiloh Baptist Church next Wednesday. These meetings follow five forums held since the Education Secretary declared the district to be in financial recovery status Aug. 14.

Mr. Watkins said the plan under development envisions improved academic performance as well as financial recovery, leading to a more attractive school district that will draw additional students who previously left the public school system to attend charter schools.

“At the following two public forums, we will update the Chester Upland community about our goals,  our progress and our findings to date in developing a recovery plan and will ask for additional input about priorities and possible solutions,” said CRO Watkins.

The meeting locations, times and dates are as follows:

Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Chester Upland School of the Arts (CUSA), 501 West 9th Street, Chester

Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 703 Central Avenue, Chester
